Mobile gaming used to be associated with Snake and simple games like Match 3. But times have changed: today, smartphones feature not only ports from PCs and consoles, but also their own exclusives with excellent graphics. We’ve compiled six of the most interesting examples in different genres.
Arena Breakout
Mobile shooters are often criticized for their cartoonish graphics and numerous gameplay simplifications to accommodate touch controls. But there are exceptions to the general picture, and if you want, you can even find an alternative to the hardcore Escape from Tarkov.
Arena Breakout from Chinese studio Level Infinite is a tactical first-person shooter that focuses on high-quality graphics and equally high difficulty. The game is a kind of “survival” game with elements of a battle royale and mechanics where you lose all your inventory when your character dies. The hero “breaks” after one or two hits, the weapon starts to sway from side to side when aiming for a long time, and you have to determine the direction from which you are being shot at by ear. Not to mention the lack of a mini-map and equipment weight restrictions.
The graphics in the game are excellent. The Unreal Engine provides beautiful images even on mobile devices, especially if the smartphone’s hardware allows you to turn the settings sliders up to the maximum. At first glance, some screenshots of the mobile version of the game (which is also available on PC) only show the characteristic interface, tailored for touch screens. In addition to landscapes with rough terrain, Arena Breakout offers a huge number of guns of all calibers with the ability to customize them.
The game is distributed on a freemium model: you can shoot without financial investment, but real money is required to purchase weapon skins and accelerated leveling.
Minimum system requirements: Android 5.1 or higher, more than 2 GB of RAM, support for OpenGL v3.1 or newer.
Wuthering Waves
This game can be described in one sentence: it’s like Genshin Impact, but with less cartoonish graphics. For those who are tired of fantasy games, switching to a post-apocalyptic world painted in slightly darker tones can be a breath of fresh air. The water here looks just as good as in many AAA titles for PC, and in terms of the variety of landscapes in different biomes, Wuthering Waves can compete with many well-known MMORPGs.
The game also has several interesting features that are missing from Genshin Impact, such as the ability to quickly climb steep walls and fast-forward through dialogues in side quests. As for the game mechanics, you won’t have to relearn everything from scratch. Both games feature teamwork between several characters and the leveling up of special abilities.
